Out now: Perspectives issue on Early modern actors of translation

Three members of the core group of Translating Through Time, Freyja Cox Jensen, Helena Taylor, and Beatrijs Vanacker, have edited a special issue for the online journal Perspectives, Studies in Translation Theory and Practice (vol. 22, issue 2, 2025). The issue is titled 'Early modern actors of translation' and is available here.

As Cox Jensen, Taylor, and Vanacker write in the introduction, this special issue 'seeks to respond to recent work on the literary translator. However, where that work is often more focused on contemporary examples, with this Issue we trace a longer history of the conception and practices of translators as ‘agents of change’. As part of a recent turn to ‘translator studies’, historians of translation have not only brought their attention to translators, looking at their careers, networks, strategies, ideologies, but also, in taking an agents-based approach, they have expanded their definition of the agents of translation to include booksellers, publishers, reviewers, readers etc.' (p. 219).

The issue contains contributions by several members of TTT's core group and partner institutions. It is the result of a series of workshops held by TTT members at the University of Exeter and the KU Leuven.
